When Earthly Fathers Fail
How father wounds impact identity and relationships.
When the first man we trusted hurt, neglected, or left us, it can be hard to imagine a Father who stays. But the failure of the earthly does not define the character of the eternal.
A Wound With Long Reach#
When the first man we trusted hurt, neglected, or left us, the wound does not stay neatly in childhood. It shapes our prayer life, our marriage, our self-image, and our ability to receive love from God.
Naming this is not dishonoring your father. It is honoring the truth so healing has something to work with.
The Lies the Wound Whispers#
'I am on my own.' 'Love must be earned.' 'If I am not useful, I am not wanted.' 'God will leave the moment I disappoint Him.'
These lies do not need to be argued with. They need to be replaced — by the voice of a Father who has never spoken any of them over you.
Bringing Jesus to the Memory#
Ask the Spirit to show you a specific moment with your father (or his absence). Ask Jesus where He was. Let Him speak. He often gives the very words your soul has been waiting decades to hear.
